In 1954 it was gifted to the Ukraine SSR by Krushchev with a lease by Sevastapol with a Russian military base there for years. In 2014 Crimea voted to join Russia overwhelmingly. The Christian church likes the pagan traditions and celebrations. Just be honest about it for once. Its so obvious this time of year, annually!
